This is a multi-user version of the full-length West Windermere Way, ideal for cyclists and horse riders.
It is just under 5km in distance, but is best done as an out-and-back route of nearly 10km.
Difficulty
Easy
Duration
1.5 hours
Distance
4.65km / 2.88miles
Route
The route is mostly on gravel paths, but has a section just north of the lakeside on the road with some fast traffic.
The trail is well waymarked with the West Windermere Way logo, so follow these signs.
From behind the Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge, the trail follows the river, crossing the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, then joining the road (take care here). Just after High Stott Park House, the off-road path begins again and travels through fields and woods to YMCA Lakeside.
Facilities
Parking: Lakeside car park (pay and display)
