Our journey: past, present and future

The Lake District has inspired generations, and since the creation of the National Park Authority, our mission has been clear: to protect and preserve this unique landscape. Looking ahead, we’re committed to tackling the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and increasing visitor demand. Our vision is a resilient, thriving National Park—where nature, people, and heritage coexist sustainably. Through innovation, collaboration, and passion, we aim to protect this extraordinary place for generations to come

Our purpose and vision

Our vision encompasses sustainable development, a prosperous economy, world class visitor experiences, vibrant communities and wildlife and cultural heritage. We involve local people, visitors, and the many organisations working in the Lake District or have a contribution to make to it, must be united in achieving this.
