Kristof has qualifications in Landscape Architecture (MSc), in Heritage Conservation (MAS), and in Landscape History (PhD). After spending a few years in practice, including a short period at the National Heritage Conservation Centre in Hungary, Kristof returned to academia, finishing his career in Budapest as Professor of Landscape History and Conservation. He then relocated to the UK, taking up research fellowships both there and in the USA before occupying academic positions at various British universities. He left academia to work for Historic England where he is currently the Regional Landscape Architect for the North of England. He is an Expert Member of the ICOMOS-IFLA (International Council on Monuments and Sites International Council – International Federation of Landscape Architects) International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes, and International Expert for the ICOMOS World Heritage Evaluation Unit.
