Stanley Ghyll Lower Falls, Part of Footpath 408037, Eskdale Parish

On 28 May 2025 we made an order closing the section of footpath 408037 which leads towards the Lower Falls at Stanley Ghyll between its junction with footpath 408087 at SD 1740 9960 and the termination point of the path at SD 1743 9953 (points A and B on the order plan). The footpath has been severely damaged and made unstable by rockfall, and there remains a likelihood of danger from further rockfall. This non-temporary, but revokable, order prohibits use of the footpath until we’ve been able to make safe and reinstate the path. We are continuing to explore available options which may be appropriate within this SSSI for reinstating the footpath.
