Ranger teams
We’re proud to have a dedicated team of rangers working across the Lake District National Park, each playing a vital role in caring for the landscape and supporting those who visit.
- Rangers and field rangers maintain footpaths with our Rights of Way officers, helping to keep the park safe and accessible.
- Area rangers lead local projects, working closely with communities and visitors to bring positive change.
- Fix the Fells rangers focus on protecting upland fell paths, ensuring these stunning routes remain in great condition for future generations.
- Lake rangers patrol the larger open water bodies, promoting water safety and sharing helpful advice with those enjoying the lakes.
Together, our ranger teams help preserve the beauty of the National Park and Rights of Way network while making it a welcoming place for everyone.
Strategy and partnerships
Our strategy and partnerships service brings together a wide range of expertise, including ecologists, archaeologists, planners, and farming specialists. Together, they manage the Lake District World Heritage Site by driving nature recovery, protecting built and landscape heritage, and delivering projects that make a real difference.
We also develop and implement sustainable transport initiatives, create the conditions for sustainable development to support economic growth through the Local Plan, and lead on managing the National Park’s carbon budget. Looking ahead, we’re always considering the future of the National Park—shaping national and international policy, monitoring how the Park is faring, and supporting the unique Lake District National Park Partnership.
Welcoming our visitors
We help more than three million people discover, explore, and enjoy the Lake District National Park every year. Visitors are welcomed through our information centres, and other facilities across the Park.
We encourage people to visit popular sites such as the Coniston Boating Centre and to use our Lake District National Park car parks. This helps us generate funds that are reinvested into projects that protect and enhance the Park.
Our visitor and services are delivered by several specialist teams:
- Information Services team which operates our Information Centres at Bowness Bay, Coniston, Hawkshead, and Ullswater.
- Fell Top Assessors who summit Helvellyn throughout the winter to provide accurate mountain weather forecasts.
- Commercial property team who run Coniston Boating Centre, manage our car parks, and maintain toilets across the National Park.

Development Management is a hardworking, professional team made up of qualified planners, a Woodlands Officer who cares for trees and woodlands across the National Park, and a dedicated Data management support team.
