Training opportunities
When joining the Archaeology Volunteer Network, we will provide an introductory sessions to explore the archaeological history of the Lake District National Park and the work you will take part in. Existing volunteers are welcome to come along to these sessions as a refresher.
We also provide training so you can confidently participate in archaeological survey and conservation projects. This training will include information and hands on experience with:

How to get involved
Join the Lake District Archaeology Volunteer Network and play a hands on role in discovering, recording, and protecting the National Park’s rich historic landscape. Whether you’re new to archaeology or already experienced, you’ll receive training, support and a welcoming community plus practical perks like workwear, travel reimbursement, and priority access to events. For those ready to lead, our Supervisor pathway offers advanced training and the chance to shape real archaeological projects.

We have a full programme of survey and conservation across all regions of the National Park. In return for the benefits we provide, we ask that registered Archaeology Volunteers commit to a minimum of six working days in the year.

Do you already have experience of archaeological fieldwork or conservation? Do you know about historic environment issues? If so, you may want to volunteer as a Supervisor. Supervisors will help us organise and implement our programme of archaeological work.

Due to the additional training and the importance of this role for the success of the Network, we ask that Archaeology Volunteer Supervisors commit to at least 10 working days across the year, for three years.
