Regional Archaeologist, and Archaeological Consultant, National Trust
National Trust Archaeologist for 28 years based in the Lake District and North West England. Jamie has provided support and advice on a variety of projects across a variety of themes including building survey and repair, landscape survey, community and public archaeology, historic landscapes and interpretation and access. In recent years, a large percentage of Jamie’s time has been devoted to supporting projects with a strong focus on nature recovery such as Countryside Stewardship Schemes and Landscape Recovery Schemes, woodland creation, and river restoration. His role includes regular production and commissioning of heritage impact assessments, and World Heritage Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) Heritage Impact Assessments checklists for use in the Lakes, which makes him familiar with OUV from a heritage professional and ‘end user’ perspective.
Jamie has been a member of World Heritage UK since 2017. He was Involved in preparing the themes, attributes, and components of OUV of the English Lake District World Heritage Site after inscription in 2017. He was Deputy Chair of the English Lake District World Heritage Site Technical Advisory Group between 2017 and 2025.
Jamie has a good knowledge and understanding of the Lake District historic landscape and its development through time, also a good knowledge and understanding of the unique and distinctive cultural heritage of the Lake District. He is very familiar with the tangible and intangible attributes of OUV for the English Lake District World Heritage Site, and the close relationship between OUV and the Lake District National Park’s Special Qualities.
