Intention to make a Traffic Regulation Order

Before we make an Order we have to tell people what we intend to do and why. These Notices of Intention are published in the local press and on this website at least 7 days before the Order is made.

Westmorland and Furness Council intention to make an Order – Footpath 512087, Monk Coniston, Coniston Parish

Westmorland and Furness Council have given Notice that they intend to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 (a ‘Special Event Order’) temporarily closing Footpath 512087 at Monk Coniston, as shown on the plan. No alternative route is available.

The closure will be in effect on one day, Saturday 20 June 2026, to facilitate the Coniston Chillswim event, enabling a secure area for swimmers and event staff between where participants exit the lake at the landing stage and the car park.
