What’s at Brockhole?

Mountains and exploration

Mountain Skills

Be inspired by our beautiful Lake District surroundings to engage your inner explorer in this outdoor session, and develop skills of orienteering, map reading, mountain safety and team work:

  • Team Game: Gather your team and work together to cross the badger infested, Brockhole bog.
  • Natural Maps: Create your own maps of the local area using only natural materials.
  • Rucksack Rummage: Which team can pack the best expedition rucksack to see them through an eventful walk in the mountains?

Session length: 2 hours
Price: £6 per child
Minimum session charge: £90

Geography Detectives

Become a geography detective! Learn about the physical and human features of the Lake District National Park and discover why so many visitors come to the area. Find out how we manage them, deal with the issues and look after the area. This session can be tailored to fit in with your geography focus.

Session length: 1.5 hours
Session price: £4.50 per child
Minimum session charge: £90

Woodland Wonders

Explore the wonders of our ancient woodland from tiny insects to towering trees, through exciting activities and games.

Session length: 45 minutes
Session price: £60 (maximum of 15 pupils per session)

Creatures of the Deep - pond dipping

Pond dipping is available in summer term only.

Discover the amazing wildlife that lives in our pond. Learn about the life cycles, adaptations and habitat preferences of these amazing creatures and use keys/identification charts to work out who they are!

Session length: 45 minutes
Session price: £60 (maximum of 15 pupils per session)

Explore and Restore Nature Day

Start the day exploring some of the wonderful habitats that we have at Brockhole through exciting nature-based activities and games. After lunch, take part in activities focused on nature conservation. Content of the sessions is seasonally dependent. During lunch, your group can make use of the playpark and grounds.

Session length: 3.5 hours including lunch break
Session price: £7.50 per child (£150 minimum session cost)


Mindful making

Visual art workshops with a mindfulness focus

At Brockhole we are surrounded by the beauty of nature – from striking landscape of mountains and lake, to nature and wildlife in our beautiful grounds. These surroundings will inspire the Art we create and be at the focus for the mindful element of our session.

Your group will create amazing artwork and be encouraged to observe, appreciate, and be inspired by the nature that surrounds them through a focused ‘mindful moment’ activity.

Choose your art discipline:

Printmaking

Explore the exciting art of printmaking, through monoprint, relief or collagraph processes. Your group will create unique artwork taking inspiration from either the beautiful Lake District landscape and its wildlife or the Arts & Crafts era focusing on William Morris.

Price: £6 per child

Mixed media and collage

Using a variety of exciting materials, your group will have the chance to experiment and use their imagination, exploring mark making and art materials to create a beautifully layered piece of work.

Making with nature

In this session focused on appreciating the beauty of natural materials, your group will make their own magnificent creations using materials found in Brockhole’s grounds! They will create their own land art pieces inspired by the amazing work of Land Artists and have a go at some exciting techniques using natural materials to make artwork to take home.

Price: £6 per child

Session length: All sessions are 1hr 30 minutes.

Brock's Adventures

Join us on one of our Brock’s Adventures, nature inspired workshops for EYFS and KS1 children.

Each adventure day starts with a reading of a picture book, leading to exciting exploring out and about at Brockhole and fun activities with links to the seasons, life cycles, art and conservation.

There is a Brock’s Adventure for every term!

Cost is an issue for all schools, and we can arrange a great value educational visit that meets your particular learning objectives.

Many schools combine one of our tutored learning sessions with a self-led educational activity trail, outdoor activities and time on the outdoor adventure playpark. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
