Cocker catchment in-field trees, hedges and tree planting

Home Protect Nature Delivering farming, forestry, nature and climate together Cocker catchment in-field trees, hedges and tree planting

Working with several farms across the Cocker catchment in 2022 and 2023, West Cumbria Rivers Trust (WCRT) has been gradually increasing tree cover in the landscape. Supported by the Farming in Protect Landscapes (FiPL) programme this multi-site project, has focused on delivering lots of small interventions that would not necessarily meet other funding requirements on their own. Across 13 farms, influenced by what suited the farm land and the farming operations, WCRT have either planted scattered in-field trees, riverside strips, or Scots pine on the fell side, as well as over 600m of hedging.
