The Lake District National Park Authority is committed to keeping your data safe and conducting its affairs openly.
Information we hold will normally be available for public inspection except when it is necessary to respect the rights of others, or to protect the our legitimate interests.
In establishing the policies listed in this section we aim to comply with the following legislation and regulations:
- The Freedom of Information Act 2000
- The Environmental Information Regulations 2004
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation 2016
- The Data Protection Act 2018
- The Environment Act 1995
- The Local Government Act 1972
Our publications and plans page lists the types of information available and where the information can be accessed (as required by the Freedom of Information Act 2000). Our obligations under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 require us to put as much information as possible into the public domain so, where possible, information will be published online and free of charge. We will, however, continue to protect personal information, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation 2016.
Information is available in a variety of formats. Hard copies may be requested through:
- the Headquarters of the Lake District National Park Authority at Murley Moss
- by inspection at any of the offices of the Lake District National Park Authority by prior appointment
- through our website
Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you a mechanism through which to find out more about our policies and decision-making process. The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 came into force at the same time and provide similar provisions with regards to any environmental information we hold.
You may ask to see any information held by us and we must disclose it unless an exemption applies or other legislation prohibits its release. If a company holds information on our behalf, that information is regarded as held by us and you may request to see it.

There will be no charge for information downloaded from our website. It may be necessary to re-coup part or all the cost of some printed publications as well as postage costs. In such cases, photocopying charges are 10p per sheet and postage costs will be based on 2nd class post. Where requests for information involve a substantial amount of work, we will give you the opportunity to refine your request to minimise such charges. Where this is not possible we may withhold the information until we receive payment of any charges incurred.
Large-print, Braille and audio tape versions of information can be made available by arrangement and will incur no additional charges.
We will provide you with the information you have requested or explain why we cannot disclose the information within 20 working days of your request.

Data Protection
Our Privacy Notice sets out the data we collect about you, how we collect your personal data, the purposes for which we use your data, details of organisations to whom we may send your data, how we keep your data safe, what you can do with your data and how you can exercise your privacy rights. It also provides details of our Data Protection Officer who is responsible for overseeing questions relating to the Privacy Notice.
