In this section, we meet some of the team that makes our Information Centre what it is today. Located in the centre of Keswick, our information centre feels very much part of the community. With all the amazing walking on offer in the northern lakes, the team pride themselves on making sure each and every visitor has a memorable experience.
I have been working in Keswick Information Centre for 4 and a half years.
The best part of my job is encouraging visitors to make the most of their break. With so much to do around the Keswick area, I try and let people know about things they have never considered before. I also enjoy keeping our centre stocked up; it’s great to see how many local products we stock and I’m proud in the knowledge that our customers will be satisfied with their purchases.
It’s hard to pick one place given how beautiful the Lakes is. Grasmere is great for walking, as there are many routes that aren’t too difficult yet you get rewarded with stunning views. Derwentwater is my favourite lake, I often sail on the Keswick Launch to take in the scenery. Every day can bring something different and the character of the lake changes with the seasons. Ashness Bridge, Surprise View, Watendlath Tarn and Castlerigg Stone Circle are also amongst my favourites.
One of the biggest changes I hear as I’m talking with customers is the cost of parking in Keswick becoming more and more expensive, unfortunately, none of these car parks are owned by the National Park.
(Read on as Chris has a little tip to avoid expensive parking!)
The cheapest car parks in Keswick are at the rugby club and at the football club. Pop in and thank me if you’d like.

I love my job, by far the best bit is passing on my love and knowledge of the Lake District to our many visitors. Whether I’m helping them plan their next adventure into the fells, or letting them know about a great place to get some local food, it’s great to be able to help people get the best experience.
This is an easy one. It’s got to be Borrowdale. There are lots of wonderful hills to climb and some really wild valleys to explore. Borrowdale is also great to be able to get off the beaten track and get some beautiful views of Derwentwater
The closure of the railway path to Threlkeld after Storm Desmond has seen a change for the area. It reminded us all just how much the weather can affect our community and our visitors. It’s great to see that the repair work has started and we are looking forward to reopening next year (2020).
The deepest tarn in the Lake District is Blea Tarn near Haweswater. At 63 metres deep it’s slightly deeper than Ullswater. Only Windermere and Wast Water are deeper.
