River Eden Special Area of Conservation

The River Eden catchment is located in the north-east of Cumbria and extends beyond the county boundary into parts of Durham, Northumberland and North Yorkshire. It is the largest of the four catchments affected by Nutrient Neutrality in Cumbria and has been identified by Natural England as a priority site for their National Mitigation Scheme.

  • Inland water bodies (standing water, running water) (93.4%)
  • Bogs, marshes, water fringed vegetation, Fens (3%)
  • Broad-leaved deciduous woodland (2.6%)
  • Tidal rivers, estuaries, mud flats, sand flats, lagoons (including saltwork basins) (1%)
