Young Ranger Leader Volunteer

Our Young Rangers programme offers a unique opportunity for young people aged 14 to 18 years to get involved in practical conservation volunteering. Our Young Ranger Leaders help to facilitate Young Ranger activities each month across the National Park.

What will I be doing?

The key tasks to be performed in this role include:

  • Leading and inspiring the young people throughout their volunteering experience.
  • Supervising and supporting the young people.
  • Helping the young people to safely engage with conservation tasks at each session.
  • Working alongside Lake District National Park Authority and partner organisations.
  • Communicating with the Volunteer Coordination Team.
  • Ensuring Young Ranger sessions are inclusive and supportive for the participants.

What skills do I need?

  • Outdoor skills and experience, and a suitable level of fitness.
  • Experience leading groups outdoors, especially leading groups of young people.
  • Awareness of Health & Safety.
  • Confidence communicating with a range of people.
  • IT proficient.

How often will I need to volunteer?

The Young Rangers usually meet one Sunday a month. Our Young Ranger Leader volunteers are asked to coordinate availability to cover the monthly sessions. There may also be a need to attend relevant training and meetings throughout the year. This equates to a time commitment of around 6 volunteering duties a year.
