The weekend’s severe weather has had a significant impact on Cumbria and our thoughts are with all communities affected. We are part of a countywide flood recovery programme and we are currently helping to assess the impact on our communities. We will be working with partner organisations to set about tackling, what is certain to be, a lengthy and sustained recovery to restore our National Park.

Pupils from schools in the Kendal area and visitors to Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Centre have written the longest letter to the Lake District’s World Heritage bid team, to help them show the UNESCO judging panel why the national park is so special to them. The result is a giant reel of heartfelt messages expressing their love for the beautiful place they call home.
