Volunteers wanted for the Great British Beach Clean at Drigg

Volunteers are needed to help clean up Drigg as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean next Saturday (17 Sep). Join Lake District National Park Area Ranger, Rec Cathey, from 9.45am at Drigg beach with litter pickers and bin bags to record and clean up shoreline litter.

Now there’s even more of the Lake District to enjoy!

From today (1 August 2016), visitors will be able to enjoy even more of the Lake District National Park, as its boundary grows by three per cent – that’s an extra 27 square miles. The new Lake District includes an area from Birkbeck Fells Common to Whinfell Common to the east and an area from Helsington Barrows to Sizergh Fell, an area north of Sizergh Castle and part of the Lyth Valley to the south.

100 mile donation towards National Park paths

To help with the extra wear and tear from hundreds of pairs of running feet during this weekend’s Lakeland 100 event, organisers will be donating £10,000 towards the much needed path repairs on the 100-mile route.

Lake District offers a warm welcome this summer

‘We’re ready for the summer’ is the message from the Lake District National Park as schools across the country break up and businesses in the park prepare themselves for the key visitor season. The Lake District was hit hard by last winter’s floods, but the National Park, together with businesses and communities, have worked hard to repair as much as possible in time to welcome visitors this summer.
