A spokesperson from Love Windermere said: “This is an important first step in building up a detailed scientific understanding of the actual condition of Windermere and we’re hugely grateful to all the volunteers who are involved in this ongoing process. As the Big Windermere Survey is repeated each season we will be able to start to draw conclusions about the factors affecting water quality in the lake.
“The citizen science is part of a blended monitoring approach for Windermere that will involve existing programmes plus some new and innovative research technologies. All of this data will come together to bring further insight and help us prioritise the right action to improve water quality at Windermere.”
