Volunteers for the Lake District National Park Authority have begun the 2025 season of free guided walks through the region, with a walk from Tilberthwaite to Little Langdale.
The popular walks have been launched during Discover National Parks Fortnight (4-18 April), which celebrates the importance of national parks in conserving the environment and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors.
Led by cheery volunteer leaders with a huge range of knowledge of the unique scenery and heritage of each area, the free walks are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
There are more than 140 walks to choose from between spring and the end of October. They’re available for all types of walkers, with easy to moderate options open for groups of up to 20 people.
Alice Chivers, Volunteer Outreach Coordinator for Lake District National Park Authority, said: “Our volunteer guided walk leaders are a fantastic and friendly group with in-depth knowledge of their routes and the surrounding area. The walks showcase the National Park’s inspiring landscape, really bringing it to life.
“A guided walk is an amazing introduction to exploring our unique World Heritage Site and we have a variety of walks to suit different abilities and ages including a couple of our ‘Miles without Stiles’ routes for those with accessibility needs and young families with buggies.
“If you want to learn more about our breath-taking landscapes and its stories, in good company and with no worries about finding your way, one of the guided walks is the perfect place to start.”
The guided walks take place all over the Lake District National Park, from Keswick to Coniston, Grasmere to Ullswater. All walks can be viewed easily, with details of start point, distance, height gain and level of challenge so it is easy to choose one to suit individual needs. Walks are free to book, with the option of donating to the Lake District Foundation who support projects in the national park.
