This year’s Lake District National Park Authority free, volunteer-led, guided walks season kicked off this weekend with a walk around Coniston's woods, tarns, and gills. There are 140 walks to choose from with a variety of routes every week through until October and they can be booked in advance on Eventbrite.
Kathryn Jackson, the Lake District National Park Authority’s Volunteer Coordination Team Leader, said: “We’re proud to support our fantastic, friendly, and knowledgeable volunteer walk leaders in delivering walks which showcase inspiring landscapes across the National Park.
“A guided walk can be an amazing introduction to the scenery, and its stories which you can enjoy in good company with no worries about finding your way. There are walks suitable for most abilities, including a couple of our wheelchair and buggy accessible ‘Miles without Stiles’ routes.
“Our volunteer walk leaders have in depth local knowledge of their routes and surrounding areas and will bring the landscape to life. They also love to give you suggestions and confidence to try other walks for yourself.”
From Keswick to Finsthwaite, Ravenglass to Lowther, there are lots of walks to choose from. All walks can be viewed easily, with details of start point, distance, height gain and level of challenge so it is easy to choose one to suit individual needs. Walks are free to book, with the option of donating to the Lake District Foundation who support projects in the National Park.
