The Gaddum Restaurant, named after Brockhole’s former Victorian owner, William Gaddum, was officially opened yesterday evening by Mrs Hilda Gaddum, widow of Anthony Gaddum, William Gaddum’s third cousin once removed.
Mrs Gaddum, a Councillor at Cheshire East and former member at the Peak District National Park Authority, joined Richard Leafe, Chief Executive of the Lake District National Park Authority to welcome guest to The Gaddum.
Mrs Hilda Gaddum said:
“I am honoured to have been invited back to Brockhole on this special occasion. I have fond memories of visiting here with my husband and children. What you have all achieved here is quite magnificent”
Mrs Gaddum shared some family memories and anecdotes and presented Richard Leafe with a book, ‘The Gaddums Revisited: A History of the Gaddum Family’, by her husband, Anthony H Gaddum.

Guests, including Eric Knowles the Arts & Crafts expert and presenter at BBC’s popular Antique Road show, enjoyed a fine spring evening and savoured ‘a taste of The Gaddum’ - attentively created locally inspired dishes prepared by Chef Gerald van der Walt and his team. They enjoyed a tour of the sympathetically refurbished Garden Room, The Lounge and Bar and The Orangery and were also able to enjoy the gardens against a breath-taking lake view backdrop on a clement spring evening.

Our menus showcase the finest and freshest seasonal Cumbrian ingredients through honest, uncomplicated cooking. We’re taking no shortcuts in the kitchen and our food is home produced using both classic and modern techniques. We’re working together with some very exciting suppliers to provide us with what we can’t produce from our own gardens. We hope it's an experience our guests will want to return to again and again."
The Gaddum is now open and taking bookings for lunch and afternoon tea.
