10 brilliant things you can do in the Lake District during National Parks Week

National Parks Week is a celebration of everything that is special and unique about Britain’s breathing spaces. This year, it takes place from Monday 27 July to Sunday 2 August.

Here are 10 brilliant things that you can do in the Lake District to celebrate National Parks Week with us:

  1. Coffins,     caves and crags – Monday 27 July
    If you like a good adventure, this guided walk is right up your street. You will be taken along a lofty crag, three lakes and a cave!   
  2. Hill walking for beginners in Coniston – Wednesday 29 July
    Learn the basic skills needed to explore the fells with confidence. The workshop includes an indoor session and a guided walk. 
  3. Have a go at rafting! – Thursday 30 July 2015
    Build your own raft and see if you can stay afloat on Lake Windermere. Make sure you bring along a towel and a change of clothes!  
  4. Kendal Calling Festival – Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August 2015
    This award-winning, innovative, independent music festival is getting bigger and bolder every year. This year’s line-up includes Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snoop Dogg and many more class acts.  
  5. Cycle ride along Windermere via the Bike Boat – Thursday 30 July 2015
    Cross the lake via Bike Boat from Brockhole to the quiet western shore, where you will enjoy a quiet guided bike ride without the hassle of traffic. 
  6. Have a go at archery – Saturday 1 August 2015
    A fantastic day out for family and friends! Have you got what it takes to hit Bullseye?  
  7. Have a picnic at Brockhole and enjoy the attractions!
    A wonderful place to start your Lake District adventure. There are tons of things to do; go on a mini adventure by bike or boat, have a game of mini golf, let the kids run free on the adventure playground or Treetop Trek and don’t forget to sit back, relax and admire the beautiful gardens and scenic views around you.  
  8. Lake District Summer music – Saturday 1 August 2015
    Enjoy great music played by world masters of chamber music.  From orchestral concerts, recitals, music theatre, jazz, vocal works and pre-concert talks, there’s something for everyone.  
  9. Have fun on Coniston Water!
    Coniston Water is about five miles long and half a mile wide. You can hire a boat, canoe, kayak or paddle board from Coniston Boating Centre and explore the lake.  Grab some scrumptious food from the Bluebird café and enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery. 
  10. Birdwatch at Brockhole – Sunday 2 August
    Sneak into the bird hide and try and identify some of the animals in the surrounding woodland of Brockhole.
